Help Migrant Families Traveling with Nothing
Migrant families are traveling thousands of miles from central and south America to escape conflict, violence, and in search of a better life for their children. These undocumented families are being processed by ICE at the southern border and then released to join family or friends who may live many miles away.
When these families reach Sacramento, either as a final destination or a stop on their journey, they usually haven't eaten, have no money, and lack basic necessities like diapers, baby formula, toothbrushes, clothes, and blankets.
Abuelas Responden is a local chapter of a national group responding to this humanitarian crisis. They greet migrant families at the bus stops with food, backpacks filled with necessities, and assistance for families who may be lost or confused about where they are supposed to be going next.
Support for ICE Detainees in Yuba County Jail
Our families and friends detained by ICE in the Yuba County jail are struggling. Separated from our communities by this racist administration, these men and women are responsible for paying not only for legal fees, but for phone calls and other necessities.
Help Jose’s family afford bond & representation!
Jose is a 26-year old asylum-seeker who was forced to leave his family and home in Guatemala to escape violence. He was detained at the US Border in early October, and his family borrowed money to post bond and secure his release. They must now raise funds both to repay the bond and to hire an attorney for his case.
Free Johalmo from ICE Detention
Johalmo fled gang violence in El Salvador, and was living with his family in Oakland when he was picked up by ICE. He has been incarcerated in ICE detention at Yuba County Jail for the past 18 months. Johalmo has been struggling with serious health issues, and the facility is refusing to give him medical treatment. His family is desperate to raise enough money to post bond, so that he can be released from detention, receive medical care, and rejoin his loved ones as he awaits the resolution of his immigration case.
