2020 Report
NorCal Resist
NorCal Resist has been busy in 2020!
The COVID-19 global pandemic has grossly impacted our asylum seeking and undocumented community members. While many of us can access federal and state safety net programs like unemployment insurance, our undocumented and asylum-seeking families cannot. At the onset of the pandemic, NorCal Resist created our Undocumented Emergency Relief Fund to ensure that our
undocumented families had the resources to stay safe and healthy as the state shut down.

Sponsorship Program
In August, we were able to sponsor two families out of Karnes Detention Center in Texas - one from Angola and one from Benin. NorCal Resist is providing housing, food, clothing, legal and other support for these families for a year.
Our accompaniment team has done a wonderful job in helping them enroll the children in school, grocery shopping providing them rides, and showing them that they are not alone. Asylum seekers are unable to apply for work permits for one year under new regulations; these families have no way to support themselves without our help.
