Davis Enterprise: Learn about migrant law
Jewish Action NorCal and NorCal Resist will co-host a Migra Observer & Accompaniment training at Congregation Bet Haverim, free to the public. This training will include information from immigration lawyers and advocates to help participants learn about and understand the complexity of the laws surrounding refugees, immigration and ICE. An ICE resistance training session was hosted at Blackbird Cafe Saturday night by NorCal Resist, an organization that specializes in training sessions informing the public on what to do if you encounter police or U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers. “We’ve all been through extensive training,” Ibarra said. “We are constantly reading on what’s happening, we are constantly out in the community ensuring that our communities protect themselves”. Chico ER: ICE resistance group encourages citizen action
Blackbird Cafe hosted an information session on resistance to U.S. Immigrations and Custom Enforcement operations Friday evening. The training was designed to provide knowledge about the methods used by ICE and how to identify ICE officers, as well as other ways to help people seeking asylum. Over 40 were in attendance, including concerned citizen Robin Engel. “I’m simply here because I’m afraid for my community and I want to learn what I can do to help protect people,” Engel said. “Harvest of Empire,” a powerful documentary that examines the connection between the long history of U.S. intervention in Latin America and today’s immigration crisis, will be screened at the Grass Valley United Methodist Church. A panel discussion will take place after the film with participants from several groups, including Abuelas Responden, Fellowship of Friends, No Mas Muertes, Norcal Resist and the Peace and Justice Center. On Friday, July 12, about 400 protesters gathered on the steps of the Yuba County Jail in Marysville to protest what is believed to be the only ICE detention center in Northern California. Hundreds of people gathered in Sacramento to stand up for children like 13-year-old Diego Lopez Pascaso. “It was like a jail. The first day I was crying because I couldn’t be with my mom,” Pascaso said. Sac City Express: NorCal Resist discusses volunteer trip to Mexican border
The discussion was led by Autumn Gonzalez, a member of NorCal Resist, a local migrants rights and progressive political group in Sacramento. The group has made two trips to the border—one at the end of December 2018 and one in February. “Our organization is all volunteers. We don’t have staff or anything,” said Gonzalez. “We kind of planned these two trips ourselves. Everyone pitches in and makes the trip work.” Read more...

Yuba County Jail Wednesday afternoon is in the process of moving I.C.E. detainee hunger strike organizer Carlos Sauceda to an unknown location, and has isolated all other hunger strikers in the jail to one area of the facility. On a rainy Tuesday evening in the middle of January, 25 activists at the Organize Sacramento space on Broadway passed around a sign-in sheet and added the letter “S” by their names. The “S” stood for sponsor, and it was one of several ways those gathered were thinking about helping Central Americans seeking asylum in the United States. The NorCal Resist meeting focused on organizing a trip to the border. Read more...
