Cap Radio: California tries again to close down privately operated prisons and immigrant detention facilities
California’s first-of-its-kind ban of privately operated prisons could be back on the table. NorCal Resist, a grassroots organization offering legal support for detainees and other services for immigrants, said in a statement that it was pleased to see Bonta defending the ban and called all ICE prisons “inherently inhumane and unsafe.” Read more...

KCRA3: ACLU files lawsuit against Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones
NorCal Resist, an organization that educates undocumented residents on their rights if approached by federal immigration agents, is part of the lawsuit. The group said the sheriff's office's actions reflect the separation of families at the border. "Separation of families are happening closer than you think. they're happening here on a local basis and anywhere else where there's abuse of power," said Giselle Garcia, a volunteer with NorCal Resist. News21: Outbreak of inequality: COVID-19 magnifies decades of injustices, inequities in U.S.
COVID-19 has laid bare the devastating cost of inequality in the U.S. More than 600,000 people have died from the virus. Black and Hispanic people are at least twice as likely as white Americans to die of COVID-19. The organization NorCal Resist has provided $960,000 in aid to people in need. But this assistance cannot make up for families going months without government assistance. Read more...

A fundraising dinner to help Northern California Wildfire victims was served up Friday night at Flapjack's Diner in the Arden-Arcade neighborhood of Sacramento. June 15 marks DACA’s 9th anniversary. Since then, it's provided stability and opportunity to more than 825,000 people. "If you don't have DACA paperwork, you can't legally work. There were a lot of young people, especially during COVID, whose parents got laid off or got sick and couldn't work and were really stepping up and working with their DACA permits," says Autumn González. ABC 10: Sacramento City Council restraining order against District 4 staffer denied
A press release from NorCal Resist, community social justice group, criticized the restraining order. The group said that numerous protestors in the city have been arrested and held on bail of $100,000, while three activists have been served search warrants to access personal social media accounts. NorCal Resist likened these instances to that of the restraining order against Michel-Evleth, stating that the moves create "anxiety and fear." Read more...

Two California organizations claim in a new lawsuit that Clearview’s subscription service is illegal and unconstitutional in the state. The case, filed in Alameda County Superior Court, names six plaintiffs, NorCal Resist, Mijente and four individuals.
